Foodie Friday!! ~ 7 - UP sour cream biscuits!

 Don't they just make you wanna stick your face in their goodness and never come back up for air? LOL.. They are so so good. I got the recipe off pinterest. Shocking.. I know..

Anyway they are called 7-UP biscuits and whoever invented them is a genius.. There is pretty much nothing to buy to make them so I have made them a staple of our diet now.

 All you need is 2 cups of bisquick. Yep pancake mix.. A 1/2 cup of sour cream.

 This is a bad picture but you wanna blend the sour cream into the bisquick with a pastry blender or a fork.. What ever you have will work.

 Once you have done that pour in a half cup of lemon lime soda. I was only able to find sierra mist and it worked great! Mix that in but don't over mix. Just until combined. It makes for fluffier biscuits.

 Turn the dough onto a "bisquicked" surface and knead it a teeny bit till it's no longer ridiculously sticky.. and take out your rolling pin or if you don't have one just pat the dough into a square that is about 1/2 inch thick. cut into 9 little squares (or you could always do drop biscuits) before you put them in the pan you'll need to melt a 1/2 stick of butter into the bottom and place the biscuits in the pan.

 Bake at 450 for about 12 to 15 minutes.

 They rise into fluffy little pillows of deliciousness.. We had them with fried chicken and green beans and I think all I ate was biscuits... LOL>.

Thrifty Thursday ~ Car Junk Organizer Tutorial!!

Hello and welcome to this weeks edition of Thrifty Thursday!! This day is special because it's actually Friday.. Yep.. Been busy so sorry..

So today I made a Car Junk Caddy! Whoo Hoo! My husband is a neurotic neat freak so my thought is if I made something to hold the junk "neatly" in the car then he would stop cleaning it out of my car!!!!!!!!!! lol..

I found these on etsy averaging about 45 to 50 dollars for a good one. Some were 25 but honestly were junk.. Sorry guys.. Sometimes it's just better to do it yourself..

Fabric was about 3 dollars. The brown I used about a 1/3 of a yard and the yard was 5.10 and the paisley was a remnant I had so I think MAYBE a dollar for that I I rounded it to about 3..
I used some peltex that is 7.99 a yard and I used almost a half yard cuz I wanted this sucker rigid so I used 2 layers. If you are more frugal than I am 1 layer would work fine.
And elastic was maybe about 10 cents or so. It was like nothing..

So I am gonna say around 7 dollars... So for 7 bucks and about 2 hours (if you'r kids are up) you can have a snazzy car organizer!

 So I am not gonna put dimensions because I have a huge mini van and my seats are bigger than say a car.. So go measure the area you want your organizer to hang on. Then when you get that go cut your fabric. 2 rectangles.

 Once you get that done cut a piece of peltex that is about 1/2 inch or so smaller on all sides. and fuse that baby on there.. Hot steamy iron on the cotton side is the best way to do it.

 Yay.. 1 step done..

 For the pockets I cut another rectangle that was the same size as my front and back piece but I added about 3 inches to the length. Next time I won't do that so I would just make the pockets as big as the entire rectangle. Hope that makes sense.. LOL..

 Sandwich that baby hot dog style and sew 'er together! Just at the bottom. I messed up and forgot to sew a casing for the elastic on mine (I make mistakes too you know.. Jeez quit judging me!!!... ;))

 I wanted to hide the seam so I pressed it while the seam was in the middle of the tube. After this step you'll wanna sew a casing for the elastic. That's what I did and I liked how it turned out. Just sew it across where your top of the pocket will be.

 Now for pinning fun! Pin it on there so it fits across the bottom and sew it on.. Just the bottom for now.

 Once the bottom is on thread your elastic through the casing and pin the pocket on the panel.

 Now go ahead and sew the edges down. Like I said earlier I made it too long.. So yours can fit. It's ok..

 I trimmed off my excess. You should do this anyway with any fray so that you don't end up pulling pieces out later..

 On the bottom I wanted there to be 2 pockets so I figured out where I wanted it and threw a straight stitch down. I made sure to back stitch like 20 time at the top and the bottom for strength..

 This is what it should look like.

 So I have a mesh thing at the bottom of my seat so I put some small ribbon to tie it onto the mesh to keep it in place. Totally optional.

 You'll need a strap to keep it on the car. I just took a 3 inch piece of fabric and made sure to measure it where I wanted it to go in the car. I folded it over about 1/2 inch and ironed it then folded it over again and ironed. Sew a zig zag down the raw edge and that should work beautifully for you.

 Sew the back to the front with right sides facing eachother. Leave a big enough hole to pull it through. Peltex is a bitch to turn. Just warning you..

 I threw an iron on the back and top stitched the hole at the bottom closed and viola! DONESKY!

 Fill it and put it in your car. Not super hard.. Not super easy either! lol.. It'll do that trick for a good long time I believe!

Thrifty Thursday ~ Mod Podge 5 point star!

 Today I made my a 5 point wood star for my wall. I have seen these at JoAnns and home decor stores and they are SO expensive! I found these wooden stars in the clearance aisle of michaels this morning and practically did a happy dance right there! There were only 2 left but that's really all I needed..

2 stars - 2.98 for both on clearance! Whoop!
About a cent for mod podge.. I used so little of it..
About a cent or so of burgundy paint (that I had left over from Tuesday's post)
and maybe .10 for the scrapbook paper page!

Grand Total..... 3.10 or so for both or 1.55 for 1! Yep! That's it!

 So I just started with these two stars.. And for this tutorial I am only doing one because I forgot to take pictures of the other.. Oh well..

 I painted the star and the sides first because I wanted some of it to be showing..

 Then I laid the paper where I wanted it and traced (hard) with my finger where I wanted the paper to go, the trimmed it to be slightly too small to cover the whole point because, again, I want to have some color show through. I did this for all 5 points.

 Then just glue them on and press firmly to make sure they stick all the way down. Add a layer on top of the paper and let dry..

You are done! Hang it and admire your handy work! Now my wall isn't sad anymore! It looks fabulous!

I pinned it and I did it!!

 One of my friends on facebook always "pins" these AMAZING recipes that most of the time you shouldn't eat lol. This case however it is totally fine. There is pretty much nothing fattening in it at all! So the woman that does the blog when the recipe is posted is from Texas so these enchiladas are meant to be HOT! I made them mild because I am a huge pansy and pregnant so I don't do hot. And to quote the al mighty Paula Dean "I don't like to get burned while I'm eating". I made a few modifications of my own to make it less spicy..

I used a pasilla chile (half of it anyway) instead of a serano and I kept the seeds as far away from me as possible! lol.. I'm seriously a wimp..
I used a medium salsa verde sauce instead of hot but everything else I followed to the letter.

The sauce alone could be like the most delicious soup in the world! I'm not kidding it's friggin good!

She was vague about the chicken and just wrote add cooked chicken.. So Safeway had chicken breast tenderloins on sale so I bought those and cooked them in olive oil, salt and pepper then shredded with two forks.. No biggie.. It worked well too.

I also didn't use Cabot cheese cuz I'm cheap and wasn't gonna pay that much for cheese. I used Kraft already shredded cheese.. It was still pretty good!

Anyway the verdict is in and these will be a staple in our house from now on! I won't be able to appreciate another enchilada from a mexican restaurant again! And I may gain like 30 pounds.. Damn you Texans and your awesome food!

 Here it is before I baked it.. Looks good already!

We didn't eat them with anything else.. Just squezzed some lime on them and chowed down! The lime is a great addition to the sauce. I highly recommend it!

Thrifty.... Uh.. Tuesday... Wall Hanging..

 I know.. I am lame and haven't done one of these for like 2 weeks! Here is my make up project #1... So I was browsing the home decore aisle in JoAnns and I saw this awesome little star box for 60% off... It was 7.99 marked down from 19.99 so naturaly I HAD to buy it.. lol.. Then all the possibilities ran through my head and I came up with this..

So the tally for this project is...

7.99 for the star
1.49 for the "B" cut out (wood)
less than .01 cent for paint because I used like nothing and the whole bottle was .53 cents..
.50 cents or so for the fabric. I had it laying around for a long time and it is quilt shop fabric so im guessing..
.10 or so for modge podge..

Grand total.. About 10 dollars for an original.. PERSONALIZED piece of wall decor! Not bad..

  So I had to wing the star.. It was kinda tricky but if you work with it you'll get it in there just fine. I traced the back of the star and after I cut it out I cut little slits in all the corners and smothed it in the star.. Then just trimmed it as needed in the spots that didn't fit correctly.. I was going for sort of a country look so I wanted it to look a little rough.. If you want a clean look I would suggest trying to be more precise and maybe use a piece of tussue paper to trace the inside then cut out the fabric based on the tissue paper template.. All up to you!

 Then I just threw some Modge Podge on the bottom of the start first then laid the fabric back in there and threw another layer on top to give it a feel that it is supposed to be there lol..

 Modge podge tkaes forever to dry anf you may wanna put it outside overnight just to get it to dry all the way and not fume your house out... It's bad..

 This is my overnight drying example.. Still not all dry but it's dry where I need it to be..

 Then I painted the letter in the color that matches most of my decor.. Burgundy..

I have had this gold pen since Jordan and I have been together LOL! It finally came in handy! However, I think silver woul've looked much better! lol...

 Isn't that super cool! Very shabby chic!

 So I decided after I got it on there that I should make it look older so I took some fine sand paper and sanded down the edges a bit..

I ended up sanding the whole letter to give it a worn look but i think it came out great and will look stellar on my wall! Have fun with it! Make it your own and you can use any shape you want that will fit your decor. I like vintage country looking stuff so hence the star.. If you have a more modern sort of style I think a circle or a box would look cool too..
