Thrifty Thursday! Fabric Covered Night Light Tutorial

Today we have a fabric covered night light! Yay! I saw these on etsy and LOVED how they look! So much better than those cheesy ones with buzz lightyear on them... yuck!

So the one I found on etsy that is relatively the same to this one just a different shape was selling for 19 bucks!

Night light from walmart    3.00

Riley Blake All Star fabric was 5.10 a YARD! So I am gonna guess like .10 cents..

felt was only like 5 cents

ribbon about the same and the button next to nothing..

All in all I would say this was somewhere arounf 3.25! CHEAP CHEAP just like I like it!

Step 1:

Gather zee junk! I broke the night light while peeling off a tinkerbelle sticker lol so that is why it is taped.. It happens..

Step 2:

Cut a small piece of fabric that is slightly bigger than your night light. If you peel off a sticker it will probably leave behind some residue so the fabric will stick in place.. Happy accident!

Step 3:

Just start folding the edges in.. There really isn't a method to it just try to keep it looking seemless on the front.

Step 4:

Your bottom, although wont be seen from above it, needs to be covered cuz it could fray all weird..

I just took some felt and cut it in a half moon shape and cut a section out of the middle that looked like it would fit on there and it worked out pretty well.. This is optional.. It will look great even if you don't do the felt.

Step 5:

Now just eyeball out where you'd like your ribbon to go (if you're using any) and glue it on. I had to pull it off any try a few times becuase the contour of this shade is really weird and I am not 100% happy with it but it still looks really nice.. Im a perfectionist when it comes to my work! It's even worse with crocheting and knitting..

Step 6:

Add your star.. All I did was draw a star on the back and cut it out.. viola.. star..

Glue a button on and nighty night! You have a super cool night light! And you paid next to nothing for it! This whole project  took me about 25 minutes.. Happy Crafting folks!

Thrifty Thursday~ DIY Diaper Caddy Tutorial

Welcome folks to another episode of Thrifty Thursday brought to you by the letter b.... for BOY! That's right we are having a boy! But you know what they say about 3rd time's a charm right! lol anyway... I have 2 daughters so I literally have nothing for this baby.. Unless he wants to go drag... But that wouldn't be sending a very good message now would it.

here is the break down.. I have seen bins this size on etsy for about 35 to 55 dollars they arent quilted either!!!

Walmart quilted fabric  -  About 4 dollars maybe less...
Brown Liner fabric  -  1.50 or so..
Peltex interfacing  -  1.35 for a half yard!

So that is under 7 dollars to do yourself! Boo Yahh! lol..

Step 1:

Cut out all your pieces and fuse your interfacing to the outer pieces! In hind sight I wouldn't have used a separate piece for the bottom.. I would've rather just use 2 pieces for the sides and forget about the brown piece so you should cut your pieces like this..

2 ~ 12/17" pieces in quilted material
2 ~ 11/16" pieces of peltex interfacing
2 ~ 12/17" pieces in brown lining
2 ~ 6/10" pieces of quilted material for handles

Step 2:

So here I sewed a brown piece for the bottom which turned out to be completely useless.. So just sew the two outter pieces together. (quilted material) At the bottom NOT SIDES!

Step 3:

Now Sandwich your big piece together and sew up the sides so you have like a pita pocket of fabric!

Step 4:

Press your corner together like the picture shows (seem to seem on the inside of the pita)  and sew about 1/4 inch away from the seem to your left. Cut off the corner with siscors! Now do the other corner and repeat steps 1 - 4 for the lining with the brown fabric!

Step 5:

Sew a casing with your strap fabric and turn.

Step 6:

Sew along each side to secure! You have a handle!

Step 7:

Put your lining fabric around the outter fabric (make sure the right sides are facing eachother. Pin your handles where you want them and stitch around leaving a big hole to turn the fabric!

This is what it should look like.

Step 8:

Top stitch around!! And guess what! You are so done !

Thrifty Thursday!! DIY - Baby Romper Just in Time for Summer!

Today I made a baby romper!! Mine was in a size 18 months because as you can tell my wee peanut is not so much a baby as a toddler any more.. Sad face... But you can pretty much make this in any size imaginable!!

So here is the break down..
I found these rompers on etsy and for a pretty basic one like this it was 38 big one.. Even up to 50 for some of the fancier ones...
Mine cost:

Fabric was roughly 1/3 yard of quality quilting fabric that I got for 5 dollars a yard  I am going to say it was about 1.75
The thread was about .1 cent cuz the spool has like 250 yards on it and it was 2 bucks..
I used abit of elastic that maybe cost me .15 cents.. so I made this baby for just under 2 dollars!! Yep! a romper for under 2 bucks!

 So the most important part of making clothing is to wash, dry and iron your fabric!

 Then I just folded the fabric over and marked on the back. I layed down a dress that was 1 size too big for my baby so it would be baggy. I traced around it in a rectangle shape.

 This is what you end up with.

 So cut it out and I forgot to take a picture but I notched a corner o the fold to make the leg openings. I just eyeballed it. If your kid has chubby legs make the notch a bit smaller or if they are skinny make it bigger.. All about how you want it to look!

 place your just cut piece over the rest of your fabric and cut out the back panel.

snadwich them faces together and pin the sides and the center v.

 sew down sides with a 1/4 or so inseam.

 then stop for a diaper break if one is needed LOL!! she really wanted a new diapee!

 as you are sewing the crotch piece together make sure you back stitch a few time on the V. It will keep it from poping open!

 Now if you want to finish the ends on the sides and crotch fin your overlock stitch. Mine is 15 on my machine. It should look like that. No worries if yu dont have one just use a zig zag.

 thats what it will look like when it is all done.

 Next you just turn the top under and sew a big enough opening to insert some elastic and the legs do the same.

 Once you get your elastic in there pop that baby on your little one and go play!

If you want you can embelish it with all sorts of things.. This was just a demonstration of how to make a super quick, super cheap baby romper! I would suggest however if you have a baby that is walking around and bending that you sew some ribbon on to hold it up!

Thrifty Thursday ~ Juice Pouch Tote!

Today I made a juice pouch tote. It was a CHEAP project!

ribbon .25 cents or so

feather boa 1.00

Grand Total a whopping 3.24! pretty cool!

Firs thing you do is drink the juice (poke straw in the bottom so there arent any holes in your tote)

Cut a slit in the bottom so you can wash them. Was with soap and hot water and let dry over night. Throw them in the dryer for about 20 minutes right before you start your tote.

 overlap the pouches just slightly and use a wider zig zag to attach them together!

 You have your front panel.

Use a thread that either coordinates with the color of the pouch or kinda dissappears. No one will notice if a stitch is wonky if you use a color that blends right in.

 Once you have made the front and back pieces you need to put together the bottom piece. Eyeball it.

 Cut it to fit and sew it together.

Now attach it to the front piece. Make sure you sew it to the bottom of the front piece.

 Sew on the back piece to the other side of the bottom piece.

 This is what it should look like when you are finished.

 Sew on the handles.I didnt wanna bother with pouch handles so I just sewed on a couple pieces of ribbon.

 tada!

 Now you have to hand sew on the boa. It will not stick with glue.
